About Us

About Us

We bring words to life with love and laughter

The Live Literature Company was founded in 2002 by our Artistic Director Valerie Doulton. We are a leading literary and combined arts performance company staging work both in the UK and internationally. We stage both contemporary and classic drama, and we create new work from a wide range of writing. We also produce deeply resonant site-specific work connecting arts to place. We are Artistic Associates of TATE and often work in partnership with organisations including the British Library, the V&A Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery to stage our work.

Vision

Our performances are presented in a truly approachable way to the widest possible audience without losing any complexity of vision.

We are dedicated to:

Sharing and bringing forth British and worldwide literary and artistic traditions.

Producing performances with high quality aesthetics that are accessible to all populations and communities.

Promoting the work of women as actors, writers, directors, designers, musicians, visual artists, technicians, and administrators.

A casting and employment ethos that actively seeks to achieve greater diversity in gender, socio-economic background, race, disability, sexuality, faith, and age.

Bringing this vision to the younger generation through our education programmes.

Collaborating with world renowned organisations to stage our work.

Working Method & Process

We work as an Ensemble directed by Val.

Val’s working process focuses on the physical embodiment of language, based on the concept there is no division between mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

Our work in education also follows the same experiential creative approach, in which language is understood in the body as an on-going process of learning and developing.
