L.L.C. STANDS AGAINST FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION WITH PERFORMANCE AT AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL 2014 – The New Spring Without F.G.M. – (HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE ARTS).
This Forum Theatre performance evening, presented in collaboration with Amnesty International’s Creative Writers Group, included a performance of Val’s prose poem First Love, a tragedy about cultural misunderstanding. Madeleine Oaten and Tony Hasnath gave a very moving performance of Val’s piece. The evening included readings by the actors and Val from contemporary Arab literature written by Nawal El Saadawi and Ayaan Hirsi Ali against F.G.M. and talks against F.G.M. given by Yvette Robbin-Coker from FORWARD and Jennette Arnold AM OBE. The discussion with the audience was chaired by David Maidment OBE. This evening developed the company’s relationship with FORWARD one of the leading organisations in the U.K. working against F.G.M.
