ABOUT THE PLAY:
A small village is scandalized by the volatile marriage of an old shoemaker and a beautiful and flirtatious young woman. “The Shoemaker’s Wonderful Wife” is a poetic comedy by Federico García Lorca where love triumphs.
VALERIE DOULTON’S LIVE LITERATURE COMPANY is dedicated to communicating British and World literature by fine writers to as wide an audience as possible. It is a Performance company that also stages Combined Arts performances fusing literature, music and dance. In November 2014 the Company performed the David Jones In Parenthesis First World War Commemorative programme with music Val devised, at The Wales Millennium Centre. The Company also performs site-specific performances of great resonance to place, their Jane Austen play in Bath, Bronte play in Hawarth, Byron play on an International tour to Monserrate Palace, Sintra, Portugal, 2 days after the 200th Anniversary of Bryon’s visit there. Work Val directed prior to forming the Company includes, Samuel Beckett, Sylvia Plath, and Poetry of War and Conscience at The National Theatre, Shakespeare at The Garrick Theatre, and in Music Theatre, Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale.
