Dear Members and Friends,
I hope everyone is having a joyful start to Spring. Some of you have let me know that you did not receive the Winter into Spring newsletter which I sent just before Easter. So this letter will repeat all our Summer performance details to make sure everyone has received this.
We have just completed our JOE ORTON UNWRAPPED – CENSORED & UNCENSORED – event at the V & A. I was delighted to receive such positive feedback from those of you who were able to join us for this. The museum thought it excellent, and a gay friend wrote:
Dropped in to see the LLC Joe Orton event yesterday at V&A…….
Fine, rich presentation which I enjoyed very much. Congrats to you and cast.
And another friend wrote:
Enacting the censored script was something that really needed to be done and really illuminating. Such a skilled quartet of actors. I really enjoyed the whole experience.
The skilled quartet of actors were Live Lit Co performers, Edward Halsted, Richard Hansell, Wendy Morgan, & Rosie Sheehy, who turned in beautifully timed, dark comic performances, in true Orton style. So we continued LLC’s reputation for achieving outstandingly interesting work in high quality performances.
On the note of continuity I think I should mention again that I intend that the issues which LLC has sometimes dedicated performance work to will remain the same. This has been FGM in our Amnesty International performances, and Climate Change & the Environment, which has been the focus of some of our Blake and Tagore performances. Through the work focused on the environment we also became linked to the important environmental organisation Resurgence. I hope all of you support me in these choices.
Do come to our Shakespeare performances this Summer! This is one of the ways we continue LLC’s dedication to the up-and-coming generation of performers.
Please continue to check our website for all our performance details. As You Like It with Songs performances are at Salcombe, Devon, 6 pm Saturday June 23rd and Sunday June 24th. The London performance on the tea lawn at Lauderdale House, Waterlow Park, is at 7 pm June 28th, and the Stratford performances in Hall’s Croft garden, are at 2.30 pm on Saturday June 30th and Sunday July 1st.
At the end of July we have another exciting event when at 7 pm on Friday July 27th we will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Emily Bronte’s birth in front of her portrait at The National Portrait Gallery in room 24. The performance will be a recital of her wonderful poetry which, if her film commitments permit, will be given by Anna Calder-Marshall.
